What’s Happening in English Curriculum Beyond My School Gate?
What sorts of curriculum and classroom-based thinking is happening in your school and what do you know about other schools’ thinking and programs in these areas? The Curriculum and Assessment Committee knows, for example, that various schools are interested in the following matters among others:
Alternative models to and use of assessment in the classroom; the intersection between literacy and English— what can the English teacher do?
Spelling and grammar in the junior and middle school; what are useful ways to plan for text selection decisions, across all aspects of the English curriculum, including profiles on the texts that are available to VCE students; creative, comparative, analytical and other tasks which in part reflect our learning priorities in the English curriculum.
Save the date and join us for C&A’s inaugural Public Meeting – an opportunity to gather with colleagues, identify the issues that matter to English teaching and teachers today, and thus help set the committee’s agenda and direction for 2018. The evening will be based around a set of provocations and breakout discussions, followed by a plenary which will aim to synthesise the contributions of the group.
The meeting will culminate in the formation of working parties for teachers keen to pursue particular lines of action of interest and relevance to them over the course of the year.
