Date: Monday 1st May
Time: 4.30pm (Registration), 5pm-6.30pm
Venue: VATE Conference Room
Suite 2, 134-136 Cambridge St, Collingwood
Presenter: Ruth Rosenberg
This will be a practical, hands-on workshop that will provide teachers with strategies about how to approach the teaching of EAL students in mainstream English classrooms. The focus will be on how teachers can ensure that their pedagogical approaches are inclusive of EAL students and of benefit to the whole class. Ideas about activities that can be used and ways to support group work will be shared. Some specific grammar that will be helpful for second language learners will also be presented.
Ruth Rosenberg has more than 20 years’ experience as an EAL and LOTE teacher from Years 7 – 12. She is passionate about the teaching of grammar and punctuation, and she uses this knowledge to support the teaching of English language learners. She has also developed a range of techniques that motivate and engage reluctant learners. Ruth is able to provide advice about how to attend to the needs of EAL students in mainstream classrooms.
